The 1960's



Around '61, the LP shape was radically changed to the two-horn shape shown in the photos. This configuration was never particularly popular, including with Paul himself, who disassociated himself with Gibson at this time, and the model was shortlived. The shape remained, as the "SG" and is still available today, but was no longer associated with the Les Paul name. The group photo has, left to right: an Epiphone Reissue '62 LP Custom. Real '62 Customs are hard to come by except at very high prices; and, a '63 LP Junior. This one was made after the name change and does not bear the LP silkscreen on the headstock, but is a very nice example with all original electronics and hardware.
